As we come to the end of 2016 it is time to reflect on some of the achievements that have been made by your committee. It is also an opportunity to reflect on some of the things which have not gone so well for us over the year.
As a committee we have been busy on several exciting projects which allow us to raise the profile of head and neck cancer nursing within the wider health economy. BAHNON is a registered stakeholder with NICE in regard to the consultation on Head and Neck Quality Standards. One of our committee members has also been extensively involved in the publication of the latest NICE guidance for Upper Aerodigestive Tract Cancers. We continue to influence the nursing aspectsof the new national audit tool HANAby sitting on the steering groupand we should see this going live next year. We have also contributed a chapter to the new ENT-UK guidelines which were published earlier this year.
We also continue to be active within the Cancer Nursing Partnership group and Head and Neck cancer was featured in one of their newsletters this year. We also continue to work with UKONS and our vice-chair currently sits on both the radiotherapy and skin care groups.
We continue to work closely with our consultant and AHP colleagues and represent the interests of nursing within BAHNO. A joint conference was held with BAHNO this year with parallel sessions for nurses and AHP’s proving popular.
Our members have been involved in a research project with a SLT colleague and we look forward to sharing the results of her study with you when published.
